In the capital of Canada, unknown persons desecrated the National Monument to the victims of the Holocaust. This was announced on Monday, June 9, by the CTV News channel.

The Ottawa Police Department's Hate Crimes and Prejudice Unit is conducting an investigation, the TV channel said.

"We were outraged to learn that the National Holocaust Monument was desecrated overnight <...> This is not just vandalism, it is an act of desecration of the memory of 6 million Jews and millions of other victims killed in the Holocaust. This is an attack on the memory of the Holocaust and on the dignity of the survivors, their families and our entire community," said Adam Silver, president and CEO of the Ottawa Jewish Federation.

Silver praised the authorities for their "quick response," adding that the federation called for "identifying and holding accountable those responsible."

On May 9, it was reported that unknown persons had cut the ribbons on wreaths laid by Russian and Belarusian diplomats at the memorial on the territory of the former Dachau concentration camp in southern Germany. During the Second World War, over 200,000 prisoners from 24 countries, including citizens of the USSR, were held there.
