Promes' lawyer asked the court to suspend the decision to detain the football player.

The lawyer of former Spartak football player Quincy Promesa has sent a request to the Amsterdam Court of Appeal to suspend the earlier decision on the arrest of his client. This was announced on June 9 by the court's press secretary Melissa Zijlstra.
"Promes' lawyer requests that the decision to detain him, previously issued by the district court and upheld on appeal, be suspended," she told TASS.
Zeistra informed that at the moment the footballer has not yet been arrested, as he lives in Dubai and is not in the Netherlands. An appeals hearing is due to take place on Tuesday (June 10), which, however, "does not address the essence of the case yet."
"The contents of the petition itself are known only to the lawyer — he will have to submit it to the court," she said.
In July, Spartak announced that the athlete was leaving the club. In September, Promes signed a one-year contract with Dubai United. It was reported that the court in Amsterdam postponed indefinitely the hearings on both appeals of the Dutch football player in criminal cases.
Promes played for Spartak from 2014 to 2018, returned to the football club in 2021 and played in its composition until 2024.
At the end of February last year, Promes was not released from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and was taken into custody, which is why he missed the match with Zenit. The press service of the Dutch prosecutor's office told Izvestia that the arrest of the football player occurred "in connection with a local violation." According to some reports, he was involved in an accident in the UAE and fled the scene of the accident.
In the Netherlands, two criminal cases have been initiated against a football player. One of them was on the fact of stabbing a cousin, for which he was sentenced in absentia to 18 months in prison. The second case concerns participation in the importation of more than a ton of cocaine through the port of the Belgian city of Antwerp, a court in Amsterdam sentenced the athlete to six years in prison in absentia. On March 1, the Netherlands began discussions with the UAE authorities on Promes' extradition.
In May, the football player was released from custody in Dubai. The newspaper De Telegraaf clarified that it happened under certain conditions, Promes will be awaiting a court decision on extradition to the Netherlands at large.
