On June 9, California Governor Gavin Newsom called US President Donald Trump's call to arrest him a step towards authoritarianism.

"The President of the United States has just called for the arrest of the current governor. I hoped that I would never see this day in America," Newsom wrote on the social network X (ex. Twitter).

According to him, the actions of the American leader only push the country towards authoritarianism.

Earlier in the day, the governor of California announced that he was suing Trump over his decision to deploy the National Guard to Los Angeles amid the protests.

Mass protests in California began after a police raid to identify illegal migrants, during which 45 people were detained. On June 8, Trump ordered the National Guard to be sent to the state to stop the riots, which displeased the governors of 22 states, who regarded this step as an "abuse of power."
