The United States, Hungary and Slovakia oppose Ukraine's accession to NATO. This was announced on June 9 by the Secretary General of the alliance, Mark Rutte, during a meeting at the London-based analytical center Chatham House (recognized as an undesirable organization in the Russian Federation).

"But it is not only the United States that has long opposed Ukraine's accession to NATO. There were other allies, for example, Hungary, Slovakia and others, who said: "we are against this," he said at a speech that was broadcast on the NATO YouTube channel.

According to the Secretary General of the alliance, for the Ukrainian side, joining NATO remains an "irreversible path" that will be considered at the upcoming summit in The Hague at the end of June, as well as after it as a priority issue.

Prior to that, on June 4, it was reported that NATO countries were considering the initiative to create a brief final declaration of the summit, which would not mention Ukraine's possible membership in the alliance, so as not to create disagreements within the bloc.

At the same time, Rutte said on April 4 that no one had promised Ukraine to join NATO immediately after the end of the conflict. He noted that the alliance had previously only promised Kiev an irreversible path to membership in the organization.
