The Opochetsky district court of the Pskov region sentenced a motorist from the city of Velikiye Luki to correctional labor for the deaths of three people in an accident. This was announced by the press service of the courts of the region on Monday, June 9.
The accident occurred on October 14, 2024, on the 452nd km of the federal highway R-23 Pskov. It was established that on the territory of the village of Alol, a 41-year-old Kia K5 driver drove into oncoming traffic and crashed into a Chevrolet Cobalt.
As a result of the collision, the driver and two passengers of the Chevrolet were killed, the Pskov news feed clarifies.
During the court session, the Kia driver fully admitted his guilt. He also "voluntarily compensated for property damage and moral damage," the press service of the courts noted.
The court found the motorist guilty under Part 5 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Violation of traffic rules that negligently caused the death of three persons" and sentenced him to two years of correctional labor withholding 5% of wages. He also has no right to drive for three years.
The press service clarifies that the verdict was passed taking into account the presence of mitigating circumstances and the absence of aggravating ones.
At the end of last year, Moscow's Preobrazhensky Court sentenced Vadim Afanasyev, a 19-year-old student who killed a man on a scooter in Sokolniki Park, to a year of compulsory labor. The incident occurred on April 26, 2024, when a young man and a girl were riding a rented scooter. After being hit, the injured man was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.
