If the conditions when checking into the hotel do not match those stated, then you should immediately start filming it on camera. Marina Tikhankova, head of Hotel Marketing at Tutu travel service, told Izvestia on June 11 how to protect your rights upon check-in.

"Check the entire room immediately upon check—in: assess the strength of the mattress, cleanliness in the bathroom, water pressure, whether all appliances are in place and whether everything is working," advises expert Tutu.

She added: if the room is dirty, you can ask for a second cleaning. If you do not have enough hair dryer, kettle or other small items, you should call the reception. Dental kits are sometimes provided on request, and in some hotels, irons, hair dryers, and humidifiers are brought only upon call.

"If you find a non-compliance with the stated conditions, it is important to get the camera first. For example, there was a case where the room was already falling apart, and the hotel refused to issue a refund. It was only when the guests sent photos showing stains on the walls and chips on the tiles that the administration returned the money," Tikhankova shared.

According to her, hotels often seek to help guests in order to maintain loyalty.

If the hotel refuses to correct the shortcomings, it is important to verify whether all the conditions specified in the booking have been violated. For example, the lack of air conditioning in a four—star hotel is a direct violation of standards. In addition, the situation when the hotel is undergoing renovation, and the administration did not warn about it in advance, is the basis for a refund. As well as the replacement of the declared two beds with one double. The guest should be given exactly what was promised in the booking, the expert added.

She also stressed that you can book hotels either directly or through trusted aggregator sites.

"When a person books a hotel through an online aggregator, they often receive additional support in controversial situations. The services are interested in customer loyalty and stay in touch around the clock. And some of them offer guarantees of settlement: if they refuse to settle a person, they find another option with the same conditions or return the money," the expert concluded.

Earlier, on April 18, the Association of Travel Aggregators (ATAG) and booking services reported on the growing demand for travel with children. According to Tutu, such bookings have more than doubled for the May holidays and 2.6 times for the summer. Ostrovok's family bookings for the May holidays accounted for 27% of all bookings, and for the summer — 37%.
