The doctor named the main symptoms of pancreatic diseases

Diseases of the pancreas can manifest themselves in various symptoms. So, the main sign of pancreatic problems is intense pain in the upper abdomen, which can radiate to the back. Evgeny Belousov, a gastroenterologist at JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg clinic), Candidate of Medical Sciences, told Izvestia about this on June 9.

According to the specialist, pain in the upper abdomen often increases after eating and can be both permanent and periodic.

Belousov noted that other characteristic symptoms include nausea and vomiting, changes in stool patterns, loss of appetite, and unexplained weight loss.

"Greasy, light or fetid stools may indicate a lack of pancreatic enzymes," the gastroenterologist added.

The expert also drew attention to such alarming signs as yellowing of the skin and mucous membranes, as well as general weakness and fatigue. Jaundice, the doctor says, may indicate a blockage of the bile ducts, which is sometimes associated with pancreatic diseases.

Among the main risk factors, the doctor named excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, obesity and poor nutrition.

"Hereditary predisposition and concomitant diseases such as diabetes also significantly increase the likelihood of developing pancreatic pathologies," the specialist emphasized.

In addition, Belousov warned about caution with traditional methods of treatment. He clarified: some herbal teas and dietary changes can be used as an adjunct to basic therapy, but it is necessary to consult a doctor before using them.
