Moscow doctors saved a man who suffered burns of 80% of his body due to a hogweed

Doctors of the Sklifosovsky Research Institute of Emergency Medicine cured a man who suffered burns to 80% of his body due to hogweed. This was reported in the Telegram channel of the medical institution on Monday, June 9.
"The teamwork of two unique departments of the institute saves dozens of patients with this problem every summer. This year, the first patient with borscht burns has 80% skin lesions," the Moscow City News agency quotes the message.
According to the patient, he got burns when he was mowing grass at the cottage, among which there was a hogweed.
"I didn't pay attention to it and kept mowing. I came home in the evening, noticed redness. It started itching, itching, and I was urgently taken to the hospital in the morning," the man said.
At the medical facility, the victim immediately underwent the necessary bandages and prescribed therapy to reduce the toxic effect of the juice of this plant. The patient spent 10 days in the toxicology department, after which he was discharged from the hospital.
Earlier, on June 7, Sergey Kolunov, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Construction and Housing and Communal Services, said that deputies of the lower house of parliament would finalize for the second reading a bill on the introduction of fines for land owners who do not take measures to combat hogweed. According to the co—author of the initiative, the amount of fines for individuals will range from 20 to 50 thousand rubles, and for legal entities - from 400 to 700 thousand rubles, reports RT.
On the same day of Life.Ru wrote that the most dangerous thing about hogweed is the toxic substances contained in its juice. They are called furanocoumarins and, when they come into contact with the skin, instantly increase its sensitivity to UV radiation. The skin immediately begins to burn from the sun as soon as it comes into contact with the plant. Moreover, it can be both photochemical dermatitis, if the skin is rough and dense, and thermal burns of the first or third degree.
This year, more than 23.6 thousand hectares of municipal land are planned to be cultivated in the Moscow region. The first stage of work was carried out on about 30% of this area. The hogweed is removed in two stages. They are held from May to mid-June, and again from the second half of June to September, clarifies 360.ru .
On May 20, Alexandra Fileva, an expert at the Hemotest Laboratory, told Izvestia that after contact with Sosnovsky's hogweed, you can get to the hospital with severe burns.
In turn, the head of the organization "Gardeners of Russia" Andrey Tumanov said in an interview with NSN that the most effective ways to combat hogweed are regular mowing and powerful herbicides, as for gentle biopesticides, they are good for prevention, but not for controlling the plant.
