US President Donald Trump has failed to dictate his terms on the Ukrainian crisis to Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping. This was reported on June 9 by the German magazine Der Spiegel.

The publication explained that Trump still perceives world politics as an analogue of the "real estate market in New York." This view, as the magazine pointed out, is deeply erroneous and may turn into a fatal miscalculation for his possible second term.

"There is no sign that Putin and Xi Jinping will bow to the US president, whose words are as reliable as train arrival times in Germany," Spiegel notes.

The article highlights that the main difficulty for Trump is the nature of his opponents. Unlike the businessmen he is used to dealing with, he is opposed on the world stage by ideologues whose goals go far beyond financial gain and are not limited to economic calculations.

The Wall Street Journal reported on June 6 that the Trump administration was not publicly putting pressure on the US Senate to ease sanctions against Russia. According to the newspaper, in recent weeks, the White House and other representatives of the American president's team have privately contacted Congress and urged it to soften its bill on restrictions.

On the same day, Trump announced that Xi Jinping had agreed to resume supplies of rare earth metals to the United States. In addition, he noted that the parties had made "very far" progress in concluding a trade deal.
