More than 9,5 thousand shells of the Great Patriotic War were lifted from the bottom of the Baltic Sea. This was announced on June 9 by the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.

"The consolidated detachment of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations continues to clear the waters of the Baltic Sea from the explosive legacy of the Great Patriotic War. A German barge has been sunk off the coast of Baltiysk since 1945. The wrecked vessel rests at a depth of 17 meters. The remains and the surrounding area are littered with hundreds of thousands of shells. Mine clearance has been going on for six years. Over the past month alone, more than 9,5 thousand shells have been raised from the bottom," the department's Telegram channel says.

Divers from the Leader Center for special risk rescue operations descend and lift cargo to the surface. Then it is handed over to the engineering troops, who in turn take it to the landfill and destroy it.

"Inspectors of the GIMS of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations ensure that no civilian vessels enter the mine clearance area," the ministry said.

On June 6, ammunition from the Great Patriotic War was found in the center of Moscow. Experts have established that the find is a mortar mine of those years, it was handed over to the competent authorities.
