The Russian military and volunteers helped a resident of Selidovo to reunite with her family

Soldiers of the Center group of forces helped volunteers find and evacuate an elderly resident from the liberated Selidovo in the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), which allowed her to reunite with her family. This was announced on June 9 by the Russian Defense Ministry.

Grandmother Maria was left alone in the apartment after the general evacuation of the city, as she could not leave her place of residence on her own due to health reasons. Her relatives in Russia have repeatedly tried to arrange for her removal, but it was impossible to do so until the city was completely liberated. After Selidovo's release, it was also not possible to establish contact with the elderly woman, which caused her relatives to worry about her fate.

"Our comrades asked us to assist in finding a resident of Selidovo. Her grandson was looking for her and asked us to find her. When the city was liberated, in May we went to the address indicated by him and found this woman. <...> The city is constantly bombed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces. We decided to bring her back to her homeland. We took her out of the city and gave her to her relatives," said a soldier of the Center group of forces with the call sign Cherny.

The volunteers of the humanitarian organization providing assistance to the military, on their own initiative, took up the search for Maria. With the support of the military personnel of the Center group of forces, they reached the specified address in Selidovo under constant threat of shelling, where they found the grandmother alive and relatively healthy, although greatly weakened by the constant shelling of the city. The military-organized evacuation of an elderly resident was successful, and she was finally reunited with her family.

The relatives expressed their deep gratitude to the volunteers and military personnel for the difficult but so important operation. This story has become another example of the interaction of military personnel and civilian volunteers in helping the civilian population in the liberated territories. Despite the fighting, the military personnel of the Center group of forces continue to pay attention to the fate of ordinary people trapped in the war zone, the department noted.
