- The governors of 22 states condemned Trump's decision to introduce the National Guard in Los Angeles.

A coalition of Democratic governors from 22 US states has criticized US President Donald Trump's decision to send soldiers from the California National Guard to quell protests in Los Angeles. The corresponding statement was published on June 8 by the governor of New York, Kathy Hokul.
"President Trump's decision to deploy the California National Guard is a disturbing abuse of power. The Governors are the commanders-in-chief of their national armed forces. The actions of the National Guard and the federal government on their own borders without consulting or cooperating with the governor of the state are ineffective and dangerous," reads the text of the statement published on the social network X (ex. Twitter).
The governors also noted that the Trump administration's threats to send U.S. Marines to American areas undermine public confidence, showing that the White House does not trust regional law enforcement agencies.
"We support the governor (of California Gavin. — Ed.) Newsom, who made it clear that violence is unacceptable and that local authorities should be able to do their job without the chaos associated with federal government interference and intimidation," the statement concluded.
On June 8, the White House published a memorandum according to which Trump ordered 2,000 National Guard soldiers to be sent to Los Angeles amid mass protests over migration raids. The protests in California began after a police raid searching for illegal migrants, as a result of which 45 people were detained. Violent protests broke out after the raid, escalating into clashes between protesters and ICE officers.
