One person died when a boat capsized on the Don River in the Volgograd region.


In the Volgograd region, one person was killed when a boat capsized on the Don River. This was announced on Sunday, June 8, according to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.
"On the Don River near the Volgograd village of Kolpachki, an intoxicated man took the helm of a vessel. During the movement, the boat capsized: he and four passengers, including a child, were in the water. One man drowned, the rest managed to swim to shore," the department wrote on its Telegram channel.
As established by the staff of the GIMS of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia, the boat driver did not have a boatmaster's certificate, was in a state of intoxication, the engine power exceeded the permissible, and the vessel itself was not registered.
A criminal case has been opened against the driver. He faces up to five years in prison. He is currently in custody.
On the same day, it was reported that in the Tver region, a boat killed a girl who was surfing on the Volga at night. The driver of the vessel did not notice the girl, as a result, a collision occurred. The girl died at the scene.
