- Fico supports the resolution of the Slovak Parliament on the lifting of sanctions against Russia

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said at a press conference on June 8 that he supported the adoption by the Parliament of the Republic of a resolution against anti-Russian sanctions.
"I would like to repeat that Slovakia, when adopting sanctions, conducts an internal analysis to determine whether these sanctions harm Slovak national interests, so I welcome this resolution [against anti—Russian sanctions]," Fico said, quoted by FinReport.
The politician stressed that Slovakia would oppose sanctions that could cause economic damage to the country. In addition, Fico mentioned the "misconception" about the increase in defense spending.
"The situation is so tense and bad that it is almost impossible to avoid some gradual increase in defense spending. The question is how much it should be and what it will look like," he said.
In addition, Fico added that he considers the resolution a strong political tool, writes "Газета.Ru ".
On June 5, the National Council of the Slovak Republic adopted a resolution rejecting support for new anti-Russian sanctions. The initiative was supported by 51 of the 76 deputies present.
Prior to that, on May 17, Fico stated that he would support a referendum on the lifting of anti-Russian sanctions in his country if such a vote took place. The head of the Slovak government stressed that sanctions against Russia often harm the European Union itself.
