Putin signed a law to protect workers from unjustified reduction of bonuses
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law on amendments to the Labor Code of the Russian Federation, which will protect employees from unjustified reduction of bonuses for disciplinary violations. On June 7, the relevant document was posted on the website of the official publication of legal acts.
According to the content of the law, bonuses will be reduced only for the period when the employee was disciplined. At the same time, the amount of the reduction in this case should not lead to a reduction in the amount of the employee's monthly salary by more than 20%.
The employer is limited in using penalties as a justification for reducing payments already earned by an employee, including bonuses already earned. It is noted that the employer must clearly specify a detailed bonus system in employment contracts and local acts. The law will enter into force on September 1, 2025.
On May 27, the State Duma adopted in the second and third readings a government bill providing for adjustments to the Labor Code of the Russian Federation regarding the procedure for taking into account employee performance when calculating bonuses. According to the amendments, employers will be able to take into account disciplinary penalties when calculating bonus payments.
HR specialist Zulia Loikova told Izvestia that innovations in the Labor Code of the Russian Federation will allow employees to protect themselves from deception by the employer, in particular, from unjustified salary cuts.
