Veteran and scientist Vladimir Slepov died in St. Petersburg at the age of 101.


Vladimir Slepov, a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, retired colonel and Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, died in St. Petersburg at the age of 101. This was announced on June 7 by the governor of the city, Alexander Beglov.
"At the age of 101, the heart of a veteran, retired colonel, a leading scientist in the field of moral and psychological training of military personnel, Doctor of pedagogical sciences, Professor Vladimir Yakovlevich Slepov stopped beating," Beglov said in a statement posted on the website of the city administration.
The governor expressed his condolences to the family and friends of the veteran.
Vladimir Yakovlevich Slepov began his service in 1942 as a private soldier, and in 1945 he met victory as an officer of the 54th Guards Divisional Artillery Brigade. He took part in battles in Austria, for which he received the medal "For the Capture of Vienna", as well as Czechoslovakia and Hungary. He was awarded the medals "For Military Merit" and "For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945."
After the end of the war, Beglov became the holder of the titles of Honored Worker of Higher Education and Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation — he is the author of over 300 scientific papers. The administration of St. Petersburg emphasized that Vladimir Yakovlevich's military and labor exploits will remain a symbol of his courage, perseverance and loyalty to the Motherland.
