The Israeli armed forces have killed the head of the Kataib al-Mujahideen radical group, Asaad Abu Sharia, in the Gaza Strip. This was announced on June 7 by the press service of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

"The Israel Defense Forces eliminated the head of the Kataib al-Mujahedin terrorist organization, which raided Israel on October 7, 2023 and took part in the abduction and detention of Israeli citizens," the IDF wrote on its Telegram channel.

It is clarified that the head of the group was involved in the abduction of the spouses Gadi Haji and the late Judy Lin Weinstein, as well as the abduction and murder of several foreign citizens in captivity.

Earlier, Abu Sharia was engaged in recruiting militants in Judea, Samaria and Israel. Israeli security officials claim that he coordinated terrorist attacks and sent militants on sabotage missions against civilian and military targets.

On May 31, the IDF confirmed the killing of the head of the Hamas military wing, Mohammed Sinwar, during an airstrike on the Khan Yunis area in the Gaza Strip. In addition, the IDF announced the elimination of the commanders of the Rafah brigade of Hamas and the organization's southern battalion. It is specified that the militants were killed when they were in the underground command and control complex under the hospital in Khan Yunis.
