The AFD announced Trump's intention to open the Russian market to American businesses

US President Donald Trump is smart enough not to support a sanctions confrontation with Russia, unlike the European Union (EU). This was stated on June 7 by Gunnar Lindemann, a member of the Berlin parliament from the Alternative for Germany party.
"Donald Trump is interested in opening up the Russian market to American companies in order to find new opportunities to market products manufactured in the United States," Lindemann said.
He added that even the visit of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to Washington did not affect Trump's position. At the same time, the European Union, according to the MP, continues its policy of tightening sanctions, thereby exacerbating the economic situation of the countries of the region.
"The EU intends to impose new sanctions to completely stop any cooperation between the EU and the Russian Federation. And Trump is smart enough to do otherwise," Lindemann stressed.
He called on Europe to abandon the sanctions policy and focus on developing economic cooperation.
The day before, The Wall Street Journal reported that the Trump administration was not publicly exerting pressure on the US Senate to ease sanctions against Russia. According to the newspaper, in recent weeks, the White House and other representatives of the Trump administration have privately contacted Congress and called on it to soften its sanctions bill.
