The Russians became the winners of the first day of the SAMBO World Cup


Russian SAMBO wrestlers have triumphantly completed the first day of competition at the World Cup, which is taking place these days in the capital of Armenia, Yerevan. Russian athletes are in the lead in the medal standings, having won 19 medals, including eight gold, seven silver and four bronze awards.
Four gold medals each were awarded to our country by representatives of men's sports sambo and women's combat sambo. Ilya Zatylkin, Maxim Merzlyakov, Our Rasul, Anton Brachev, Valeria Tepysheva, Vera Lotkova, Yana Kozyreva and Angela Gasparyan scored outstanding victories.
Armenia's representatives are second in the medal standings after the first day of the tournament (six medals: two gold and four bronze). Athletes from Ukraine took the third place (four medals: one gold, one silver and two bronze).
The SAMBO World Cup, supported by Rosneft's general partner and VTB Bank's official partner, started in Yerevan on June 7 and will last until June 8.
Medals in sports and combat sambo competitions among men and women in 28 weight categories will be awarded at the tournament. The winners will receive a prize of $3,000, the runners—up will earn $2,000 each, and the bronze medalists will earn $1,000 each. The total prize fund of the tournament will be $196 thousand.
Earlier in the day, Russian SAMBO wrestler Vera Lotkova, who won the World Cup, told Izvestia that she traditionally dedicated the victory to her father, who is in the free zone. She also noted the high level of organization of the competition.
