Pro-Palestinian activists opposed to the conflict in the Gaza Strip have doused the facade of the Finnish Ministry of Defense building in Helsinki with pink paint, Yle TV reported on June 7.

"On Friday night, the main entrance to the Ministry of Defense building in Helsinki was desecrated with pink paint. The police received a report of a riot at 1:42 a.m. (coincides with Moscow time. — Ed.)," the publication says.

It is known that the building's security guard told the police that he saw a man and a woman running away from the scene. No suspects have been found yet. The incident is being investigated under the article on especially serious damage to property.

The Palestine Action activist group claimed responsibility for the incident, Yle notes. They oppose military operations in the Palestinian enclave and the Finnish Defense Ministry's cooperation with Israeli defense manufacturers. The group also reported that the building of the department was doused with water-soluble paint.

On June 5, The Jerusalem Post reported that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) had decided not to allow the ship Madeleine, bound for Gaza with 12 pro-Palestinian activists on board, including Swedish environmental activist Greta Thunberg. The publication noted that Defense Minister Israel Katz plans to take additional measures. The Israeli authorities expressed concern that allowing the ship to dock could set an undesirable precedent and undermine the regime of the naval blockade of the Gaza Strip.
