Tokayev called for reforms in the UN structures

The structures of the United Nations (UN), including the Security Council (SC), need reforms. This was announced on June 6 by President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in an article for The Hill dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the United Nations.
"If the UN really is to serve the world community, then its structures, especially the Security Council, must be reformed to include more voices from outside the permanent five members (the United States, Great Britain, France, Russia and China). Only then will the UN be able to better address the diverse and urgent regional issues of our time," he wrote.
Tokayev also noted that this way the UN will be able to more effectively deal with the main threats facing the world, for example, pandemics or climate change. He believes that if the United Nations can be made more results-oriented, it will be an institution that meets the requirements of the 21st century, an institution capable of leading the fight against various problems: from climate change and food insecurity to conflict prevention and technological management.
"In the spirit of this anniversary (the 80th anniversary of the United Nations. The international community should not abandon the UN, but on the contrary, reaffirm its commitment to it, reform it and strengthen it. This universal organization is absolutely necessary for humanity — there is no alternative to it," Tokayev stressed.
The representative of the UN Secretary General, Stephane Dujarric, said on June 5 that the UN considers negotiations to be a more effective method of resolving the conflict in Ukraine than pressure and threats of new sanctions from the United States. He stressed that in any conflict, the solution to end it lies in negotiations.
