The mother of a newborn girl found in a package was detained in the Leningrad region. This was announced on Friday, June 6, by the regional investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

"A 15-year-old girl has been detained. The investigative body charged her with committing a crime under Part 3 of Article 30, paragraph "b" of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Attempted murder of a minor")," the agency said in a Telegram channel.

The investigation found that the girl gave birth to her daughter in the apartment, then put her in a bag and threw her out of the first-floor window, hoping that the child would die. The newborn managed to survive due to the fact that she was found in time and handed over to doctors, the department added.

All necessary investigative actions are being carried out in the criminal case. Law enforcement agencies establish the reasons and conditions that prompted the child's mother to commit a crime.

A source from Izvestia reported on the child found in the package earlier in the day. It was clarified that the girl was only two hours old. The janitors managed to find her, who heard the crying of a newborn. The baby was taken to the hospital with head bruises. A criminal case was opened.
