- Bloomberg reported on the plans of the EU and Canada to conclude an agreement in the defense sector

The European Union (EC) and Canada plan to conclude a defense partnership agreement in June as part of Brussels' efforts to reduce dependence on the United States. This was reported by Bloomberg on June 6, citing a source.
"The EU intends to conclude a defense and security partnership with Canada, which will pave the way for Canadian companies to participate in a new defense fund designed to boost the transformation of the bloc's industry," the statement said.
It is specified that the summit between representatives of the EU and Canada is scheduled for June 23. The conclusion of this agreement will allow Canadian firms to use the funds of the European defense loan fund in the amount of $171 billion.
According to the publication, the EU is also seeking to strengthen relations with the G7 countries, as US President Donald Trump is reducing his country's obligations to protect Europe, and, as the agency's source noted, has already "turned the European security system upside down."
In addition, the publication clarified that the EU also plans to hold a summit with Japan in July to strengthen the security agreement. The agreement will ensure economic security, supply chain stability and competitiveness between the negotiators.
The Handelsblatt newspaper reported on May 25 that senior European diplomats expect Washington to announce a reduction in the American military presence in Europe in the next few months.
