Ruins of a supposed medieval city have been found in the Zhetysu region in southern Kazakhstan. This was announced on June 6 by Olga Gumirova, Executive Director of the Petroglyph Hunters Public Foundation.

"It looks like we've found the medieval city that everyone has been looking for for a long time! There is information about him in written sources. The archaeologists are already aware," she wrote on Facebook (owned by the recognized extremist Meta company, its activities are prohibited in the Russian Federation).

According to her, first, archaeologists discovered the remains of brickwork in the quarry, and then a wall with melted medieval bricks sticking out of it. The city was burned down during the Mongol invasion, Gumirova added.

The expert noted that this find is "a settlement equal to Talkhiz or Koylyk." Talkhiz is located in the Almaty region of Kazakhstan, the first mention of it appeared in the 10th century. The city was a medieval center of trade and crafts. Koylyk was also the largest trade, craft and cultural center, famous for its bazaars. Both cities have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The Associated Press reported on May 26 that in Egypt, during excavations on the west bank of Luxor, archaeologists discovered three tombs of statesmen of the New Kingdom era (1550-1070 BC). Thanks to the images inside, experts were able to identify the names and titles of the tomb owners.
