- A schoolboy was detained in Cologne on suspicion of preparing a terrorist attack on Christmas Day.
In the German city of Cologne, police detained a 14-year-old schoolboy, Emirkhan, after he joined the Islamic State (IS, a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation) and planned to commit a terrorist attack on one of the Christmas fairs in December on his behalf. This was reported by the Bild newspaper on June 6.
The Cologne prosecutor's office said that the teenager posted a video with the symbols of a terrorist organization on his TikTok channel, after which law enforcement officers became interested in him. Later, they checked his other social media accounts. There were materials of an Islamist nature, and in one of the publications he even called himself a "martyr."
"According to the information, the student was not only spreading ISIS propaganda, but was also planning to carry out an attack. It is still unclear how far these plans have gone. In chat rooms, a 14-year—old teenager allegedly named a Christmas market in December 2025 as a possible place of terrorist attack," the publication noted.
It is clarified that the student is suspected of promoting unconstitutional associations and membership in a banned organization.
Earlier, the media reported that on December 20, 2024, in the city of Magdeburg, located about 150 km southwest of Berlin, a car hit visitors to the Christmas market. The driver turned out to be a refugee from Saudi Arabia, Taleb A. Six people were killed in the attack, and about 300 others were injured. The authorities classified the incident as a terrorist attack.
