Three quarters of the capital's residents consider Moscow to be a tourist city

Most residents of Moscow see the value of the tourism industry for the capital. Every ruble that has been invested in this area, directly or indirectly, brings an average of five rubles of revenue to the budget. These figures were mentioned by Deputy Mayor of Moscow Natalia Sergunina, noting that these funds are used to finance urban programs, landscaping, and the creation of new places for work and recreation.
"75% of the capital's residents consider Moscow to be a tourist city. Infrastructure development, focused primarily on Muscovites, attracts travelers as well. They celebrate cozy public spaces and parks, comfortable and affordable transportation, many attractions and a rich cultural program," said Sergunina.
According to her, the growing interest in trips to Moscow has a positive effect on the development of local entrepreneurship. A significant part of the guests' expenses are related to related industries: gastronomy, trade and services, entertainment, and others.
In 2024, 26 million people visited Moscow, and the majority of the guests -23.3 million — were residents of Russia. About 20% of the tourist flow falls on six regions: St. Petersburg, Tatarstan, Khanty-Mansiysk and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrugs, Krasnodar Territory and Sverdlovsk Region.
The number of people coming to Moscow from abroad is also increasing. In particular, these are guests from China, India and the United Arab Emirates.
