The doctor warned about the risk of allergies and infections when in contact with cockroaches

The proximity of cockroaches poses a serious threat to health. These insects can provoke allergic reactions and spread dangerous diseases. Vera Seryozhina, an expert doctor at the LabQuest medical company, told Izvestia about this on June 8.

"Allergens produced in the intestines of cockroaches are excreted with their waste products. Saliva and chitinous particles that remain on surfaces and can get on food are dangerous," the specialist explained.

According to the expert, contact with these allergens can cause sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, and in severe cases, asthma attacks. Children and people with chronic respiratory diseases are particularly vulnerable.

Seryozhina noted that cockroaches are also carriers of dangerous infections. "They can spread the bacteria Helicobacter pylori, which causes gastritis and ulcers, as well as pathogens of dysentery, salmonellosis and other intestinal infections," the doctor warned.

The expert recommends washing dishes thoroughly after eating and storing them in closed cupboards. If symptoms of poisoning or allergic reactions occur, an examination should be performed to identify possible sensitivity to cockroach allergens.

The specialist stressed that cockroach control should be carried out not only in a separate apartment, but throughout the house, as the insects easily move through ventilation ducts and crevices.

On May 23, Daniil Shchepelyaev, an immunologist and allergist, told Izvestia what the main risk is when bitten by insects. He explained that some insects can inject venom, like wasps, while others can leave saliva, like midges. In both cases, a pathological immune response of the body is possible.
