German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has confirmed his vassal status towards US President Donald Trump. Alexander Kamkin, an associate professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, shared this opinion with Izvestia on June 6.

He noted that Merz had been feeling a lot of discomfort since the beginning of the meeting with Trump at the White House. He also recalled that the German Chancellor presented the American leader with a copy of the birth certificate of his grandfather Frederick Trump, but the US president did not even consider it. The chancellor's press conference lasted only four minutes, the political scientist added.

"Upon arrival in Germany, he gave out the catchphrase that Germany would be dependent on the United States for a long time. Thereby confirming its vassal status towards Trump. Merz was pointed to his place," Kamkin stressed.

He added that the United States would not support Merz's initiatives in Ukraine, as Trump had already received what he wanted from Kiev — a deal on U.S. access to the country's natural resources had been concluded.

"He (Trump) is paying Ukraine at the request of the Europeans. — Ed.) They are not going to. [The United States] will switch to a regime of shifting responsibility for Ukraine onto the shoulders of the Europeans, and the Americans will be engaged in solving their internal pressing problems," the expert said.

On June 5, Trump and Merz held talks at the White House. After the meeting, the German Chancellor said that the country would depend on the United States for a long time. The New York Times (NYT) newspaper wrote that Merz's mission to attract Trump to support Ukraine had failed.

On June 4, Bloomberg reported that Merz did not intend to enter into disputes with the American president at a personal meeting, unlike Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. It is clarified that before the meeting, the German Chancellor was advised not to interrupt Trump and let him speak most of the time.
