- Police officers were detained at Nizhny Novgorod airport for organizing illegal migration
Police officers and local residents were detained at Nizhny Novgorod airport in connection with the organization of illegal migration. This was announced on June 6 by the Central Interregional Investigative Department for Transport of the Investigative Committee of Russia (MCUT TFR).
According to the investigation, from 2024 to 2025, a group operated at Nizhny Novgorod airport that identified violators of migration laws and, for a fee, allowed them to leave the Russian Federation without punishment, including without a ban on re-entry. The group also included employees of the Nizhny Novgorod Linear Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation for Transport.
Investigators have opened criminal cases under Article 322.1 of the Criminal Code ("Organization of illegal migration") and Article 286 of the Criminal Code ("Abuse of official authority"). Currently, six defendants have been taken into custody.
"During the investigation, a legal assessment will be given to the actions of all persons involved in the criminal scheme. The investigation of the criminal case is under the control of the leadership of the investigative department," the agency's Telegram channel says.
On May 20, the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, Irina Volk, announced the closure of the illegal migration channel. Thus, six residents of the Volgograd region and Moscow were detained, who legalized more than 1,000 foreigners. One of the defendants created fictitious recruitment agencies and issued migration documents for money. Fake contracts were signed with foreigners to extend their stay in Russia. A criminal case has been opened on organizing illegal migration.
