The lungs are exposed to polluted air, viruses and allergens on a daily basis, so sometimes they need help with cleansing. However, cleansing the lungs is part of rehabilitation therapy, not universal prevention. Olga Tsagaraeva, a pulmonologist at JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg Clinic), told Izvestia about this on June 7.

"Our lungs are not just a respiratory organ, but a system that is daily exposed to polluted air, viruses, allergens and harmful substances," said the pulmonologist.

Cleansing the lungs, according to her, becomes relevant in different situations: after inflammation, with prolonged coughing, smokers, as well as those who live or work in conditions of increased dust and pollution. Sometimes the restoration of the respiratory system is necessary to normalize breathing and improve overall well-being.

The doctor noted that in most cases, the lungs clear on their own, but they may need support after illness.

"After bronchitis or pneumonia, sputum does not go away for a long time, breathing remains difficult, and weakness does not go away — these are signs that the body has not yet recovered," Tsagaraeva said.

The expert emphasized that cleansing the lungs is part of rehabilitation therapy, not universal prevention. For chronic diseases such as asthma or obstructive pulmonary disease, any procedures should be performed only under the supervision of a doctor.

Tsagaraeva recommended paying attention to physical activity. Cardio exercises in the fresh air enhance blood circulation and improve lung ventilation. It is important to breathe properly — deeply and through the nose, in order to use the entire volume of the lungs.

The specialist also advises breathing practices. Deep conscious breathing not only saturates the body with oxygen, but also accelerates the elimination of toxins. Such methods are especially useful for former smokers and those who are recovering from infections.

"Foods with antioxidants — broccoli, spinach, citrus fruits, pomegranates — help to remove harmful substances and reduce inflammation. This is especially true for those who have quit smoking," said the pulmonologist.

In conclusion, the doctor reminded that the lungs do not hurt to the last, so it is important to take care of them in advance — to give up smoking, breathe clean air, exercise and recover from illness on time.

Earlier, on January 28, DDX Fitness fitness trainer Yuri Averyanov recommended that you stop delivering groceries to your home and go shopping on your own. He noted that a low-activity lifestyle has become one of the most common problems of our time, as people spend most of the day sitting at a computer.
