Advisers to US President Donald Trump are preparing for a "protracted war" between the head of the White House and American entrepreneur Elon Musk. On Friday, June 6, The New York Times newspaper reported, citing a source close to the American leader.

Trump's political advisers are preparing for a possible protracted war against Musk, in which the allies of both leaders in technology and politics will be forced to choose a side.

As the newspaper notes, the Trump-Musk alliance broke up very quickly. The altercation between the president of the United States and the richest man in the world has rapidly escalated into threats on social media.

Their "sudden breakup" ended a nearly year-long partnership during which Musk helped Trump occupy the White House and became one of the president's top advisers. Now both are "risking a lot," the authors of the article write.

"Musk's friends and associates said they were in a state of disbelief at the abrupt and sudden breakup. <...> There was still nervousness in Musk's entourage due to the fact that he had chosen a huge fight, even by his standards, which could have unpleasant consequences," the article says.

According to the publication, few of Musk's colleagues expected his relationship with Trump to last forever. However, they were sad that "everything ended so bitterly."

On June 3, Musk criticized the draft budget proposed by the Trump administration, calling it a disgusting "abomination." On June 5, Musk publicly supported the idea of impeaching Trump. The president, in turn, wrote that terminating contracts with Musk is the easiest way to save money in the state budget. At the same time, Tesla shares fell sharply.
