Football player David Beckham is expected to be knighted during the birthday celebrations of British King Charles III. This was reported on June 6 by The Guardian newspaper.

"David Beckham will be awarded a knighthood next week as part of King Charles' birthday celebrations," the article says.

50-year-old Beckham is on the guest of honor list. He is expected to receive the title of sir, and his wife Victoria will become a lady.

According to the newspaper, the footballer has been applying for a knighthood for more than a decade. He played more than 100 times for the England national team and became famous for his charity work. Beckham is also an official ambassador for the King's Foundation and supports its educational programs.

According to The Guardian, the footballer was first nominated for a knighthood in 2011 after helping London win the bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games.

Earlier, on December 19, Charles III knighted director Christopher Nolan. Nolan's wife and part-time producer Emma Thomas also received the title of lady.
