Hutsul stated that the investigation violated the Criminal Procedure Code.
The police violated the Moldovan Code of Criminal Procedure in relation to the head of Gagauzia, Evgenia Gutsul, which is the basis for the cancellation of the criminal case. Hutsul told Izvestia about this on June 6 after the next court hearing.
It is noted that the human rights defenders of the head of the autonomy filed a complaint about violations of the article of the Criminal Procedure Code of Moldova on granting the status of the accused.
As Hutsul explained, the first searches took place on July 20 or 21, 2022. After that, within five calendar days, the criminal prosecution officer must either remove the person from the criminal case or present the status of a suspect. However, the corresponding status was assigned to the head of Gagauzia only on September 2 of the same year.
"They violated all deadlines, this is a gross violation. In practice, there are cases where the date of the indictment was one day overdue and the case was annulled. And this case should be annulled," Hutsul stressed.
On March 25, Hutsul was detained at the Chisinau airport. Her name was found on the list of persons who are prohibited from leaving the country. Later, the head of Gagauzia was arrested for 20 days, and on April 9, the court replaced her measure of restraint with house arrest.
Then, on May 12, the court extended Hutsul's house arrest for another 30 days. According to her lawyer, Hutsul may remain under house arrest until March 2026.
