Lavrov pointed out the need to restore the rights of Russian-speaking residents of Ukraine.

Russia will insist on the need to restore the rights of the Russian-speaking population in Ukraine, which will be one of the conditions for a long-term settlement of the conflict. This was announced on June 6 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in a video message on the occasion of Russian Language Day.

"Russia will not leave Russians and Russian-speaking people in trouble, it will ensure that their legitimate rights, including the right to speak their native language, are fully restored. <... > We will insist that a solution be a necessary condition for a long—term peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict," he is quoted as saying on the Foreign Ministry's website.

According to Lavrov, the Kiev regime is legally exterminating everything related to Russia, including the Russian language, which has been banned from use on Ukrainian territory.

The Foreign Minister clarified that for Russia, respect for the Russian language is a priority, as well as for the people who speak it. He added that the Russian Federation would not tolerate discrimination from Ukraine, and would also defend the rights of the Russian-speaking population at the international level.

In addition, Lavrov clarified that strengthening the position of the Russian language in the world remains among the priorities of the Russian side for the humanitarian foreign policy of the country.

On the eve of the Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the idea of creating spaces in the branches of the National Center "Russia" to promote the Russian language. It was specified that various events aimed at popularizing the Russian language among children and youth will be held at such venues.

At the same time, the Russian leader agreed to the initiative to create a center for the promotion of the Russian language in the world on the basis of one of the universities.
