The Chechen Parliament has submitted three bills to the State Duma with a proposal to rename the settlements of Sernovodsk, Shelkovskaya and Naurskaya. The documents were published on June 5 in the electronic database of the lower house, they were submitted by the Parliament of the republic.

It is specified that Sernovodsk is planned to be renamed Sernovodsk due to the location of the nearby resort "Sernovodsk — Kavkazsky". The city of Naurskaya is in Nerva, and Shelkovskaya is in Terek, given their geographical location.

Three former settlements were transformed into cities as a result of the merger with other settlements. Currently, their names do not comply with the rules of Russian spelling.

On May 1, Regina Sultanova, a 15-year-old activist from the region, proposed to Russian President Vladimir Putin that Volgograd be renamed Stalingrad. She explained to Izvestia that the city is primarily associated with the Battle of Stalingrad.

According to the activist, the locals, who, as the head of state pointed out, should make the decision on renaming, disagreed: some are in favor of preserving historical memory, while others have already become accustomed to the current name.
