The German Air Force took off two fighter jets in the Baltic Sea area due to the appearance of a Russian Il-20 military aircraft in the airspace. This was reported on June 5 by the German newspaper Welt.

"Two German Eurofighter fighter jets of the Bundeswehr took off on alert due to a Russian reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic Sea," the publication says.

It is noted that the IL-20 was flying in international airspace, allegedly without giving an identification signal and radio contact. In addition, shortly before the incident, NATO began exercises in the Baltic Sea, the publication added.

On May 25, the Operational Command of the Polish Armed Forces announced that its fighters had been lifted into the air in connection with the alleged activity of Russia. Ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems were also put on high alert.
