- The ICC called the US sanctions against judges an attempt to undermine its independence.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) believes that the sanctions imposed by the United States against judges are an attempt to undermine the independence of the international judicial institution. The corresponding statement was published on the court's website on June 5.
"These measures are a clear attempt to undermine the independence of the international judicial institute, which operates in accordance with the mandate of 125 participating states from all over the world," the statement said.
The ICC also claims that the court allegedly "provides justice and hope to millions of victims of horrific crimes" and acts "in strict accordance with the Rome Statute and the principles of justice and due process." The statement added that the sanctions are directed against all those who support the court, including citizens and corporations of the participating states.
On June 5, the US State Department announced the imposition of sanctions against four ICC judges — from the ICC Appeals Division, Solomi Balunga Bossa and Luis Del Carmen Ibanez Carranza, as well as from the pre-trial and Judicial division, Rain Adelaide Sophie Alapini Gansu and Beti Holer.
