On Thursday, June 5, the two-day literary festival Pushkin Fest began in Cyprus, dedicated to the 226th anniversary of the birth of poet Alexander Pushkin and the International Day of the Russian Language.

The festival opened at the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Nicosia with a solemn ceremony of naming the Pushkin concert hall of the institution. In honor of this event, bas-reliefs based on the poem "Ruslan and Lyudmila" and "Tales of Tsar Saltan", made by Leonid Kim's Studio of Modern Bas-relief, were placed in the hall. A commemorative plaque in Russian and Greek was also installed.

The ceremony was attended by Murat Zyazikov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Cyprus. He stressed that Pushkin's figure unites peoples and cultures.

"The great Russian poet is loved all over the world, and this is a special event for our compatriots. We have monuments in other places, but today, I think, this is a landmark event," Zyazikov said.

On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the idea of creating spaces in the branches of the National Center "Russia" to promote the Russian language. It was clarified that the initiative was made by Elena Yampolskaya, Adviser to the President of the Russian Federation, during a meeting of the council for the implementation of state policy in the field of support for the Russian language and the languages of the peoples of Russia.
