In the Moscow region, more than 20 recreation areas are recognized as suitable for swimming. This was announced by the press service of the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor) in the region on Thursday, June 5.

"At the moment, the Department of Rospotrebnadzor in the Moscow region has issued 21 sanitary and epidemiological conclusions on compliance with the sanitary and epidemiological requirements of a water body used for recreational purposes," the Moscow City News agency quotes the message.

Among the permitted bathing areas are Chelokhovo and Knyazhesky Pond in Yegoryevsk, lakes Svyatoe and Yubileynoe in Shatura, Zapadny reservoir in Elektrostal and others.

The press service stressed that it is safe to swim only in officially designated recreation areas if there is a sanitary and epidemiological conclusion on the quality of water.

Earlier that day, Anastasia Agayeva, a general practitioner at the Sberbank Health medical company, told RT that getting water into your mouth while swimming in natural reservoirs can cause various infections.

The doctor warned that natural reservoirs are often a source of pathogenic bacteria, viruses and parasites, as they can contain, for example, sewage, animal feces and waterfowl.

On June 3, Vladimir Neronov, MD, an infectious disease specialist at JSC "Medicine" (Academician Roitberg Clinic), said that with the arrival of summer and the beginning of the bathing season, cases of cercariosis, a disease also known as "bather's itch", are increasingly being recorded in Russia. This is a form of allergic skin reaction caused by the larvae of parasitic worms living in freshwater reservoirs.
