In the close circle of Artyom Timofeev, who is suspected of organizing attacks by Ukrainian drones on Russian airfields, there was a candidate for the post of Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Ekaterina Koval, and he himself could have been recruited by the country's Security Service (SBU). This was reported to Izvestia by sources in law enforcement agencies.

Koval has worked for a long time in the law enforcement agencies of Ukraine, is the executive director of the fund for assistance to Ukrainian special forces officers and in 2019 applied for the post of Deputy Minister of Defense of the country.

As it became known, Timofeev and Koval maintained close contact — they were added to each other's list of friends on social networks, and the 35-year-old native of Kharkov repeatedly showed activity on the pages of Timofeev's wife, putting "likes" under family publications.

Security sources told Izvestia that Koval could have been recruited by the SBU, and then involved Timofeev in organizing attacks on Russian airfields on June 1.
