Trump told Merz about his involvement in the destruction of Nord Stream 2

During the first meeting with the new German Chancellor Friedrich Merz at the White House, US President Donald Trump told the German guest on June 5 that it was he who put an end to the operation of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
"I'm the one who stopped [the construction of] Nord Stream 2 going to a place called Germany, come to think of it. Sorry. But I put an end to Nord Stream 2. No one else has done this," the American leader told the Chancellor.
Trump added that when former US leader Joe Biden replaced him at the end of his first term, he immediately approved of his predecessor's action.
"This is, in fact, the largest pipeline in the world, going to Germany and other countries. We have so much oil and gas that you (Germany. — Ed.) you will not be able to buy them all," the politician continued.
As Trump noted, Washington and Berlin can use such an amount of American fuel to conclude a trade deal.
On June 2, the British publication UnHerd reported that Merz insists on an eternal ban on cooperation with the Russian Federation in the form of supplies via the Nord Stream–2 gas pipeline, as this could ruin European industry. According to the author of the article, the decision of the German Chancellor is meaningless, since the resumption of Russian gas supplies to Europe makes economic and strategic sense due to its cheapness, stability and less harm to the environment compared to American liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Merz 28 may during a press conference with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky in Berlin, said that the German government will do everything to prevent the resumption of operation of the pipeline "Nord stream – 2". Merz said that Germany will continue to increase pressure on Russia in the field of tightening sanctions.
