Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov and Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali exchanged views on the situation surrounding Iran's nuclear program during a joint meeting. This was announced on June 5 by the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"Mutual interest was expressed in preventing an escalation of tension fueled by all kinds of speculation about alleged threats related to the Iranian peaceful atom," the ministry's website says.

It is clarified that at the meeting Ryabkov and Jalali noted the harmfulness of anti-Iranian initiatives promoted at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in order to prevent Tehran's interaction with the organization and with the United States.

The diplomats also stressed the importance of continuing the negotiation process, which will be aimed at eliminating prejudices about Iran's nuclear activities, the Russian Foreign Ministry added.

Earlier in the day, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia could take part in negotiations on the nuclear program between Iran and the United States. According to him, Russian President Vladimir Putin will join the dialogue if necessary.
