- The political scientist pointed to the role of the US Democrats in the EU's anti-Russian activity.

The US Democratic Party has significantly influenced the anti-Russian activity of the European Union (EU), as the previous White House administration for a long time set up Brussels for confrontation with the Russian Federation. Political scientist Ivan Mezyuho told Izvestia on June 5.
On this day, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that EU leaders consider the conflict in Ukraine as a preemptive strike in order to "stop the Russian Federation." He also noted that the EU aims to fight the Russian Federation instead of following the main task of strengthening the well—being of the community.
"The anti-Russian activity of the European Union is largely due to the fact that representatives of the US Democratic Party have been setting up the EU machine for a long time to confront the Russian Federation. I think that people like Orban will be in the minority for a long time, but the trend towards increasing the influence of nationally oriented politicians within the EU will increase," the expert said.
The political scientist suggested that if the activity of politicians like Orban continues to grow in other EU countries, the world will see a different political architecture in Europe at some point.
According to Mezyuho, the European Union has not calculated all the risks involved in the Ukrainian crisis.
"Thanks to cheap energy resources from the Russian Federation, the European Union has managed to achieve the level of well-being that residents of many other regions dream of. And now, by helping Ukraine to escalate the situation on the battlefield, cutting off economic ties with the Russian Federation, they themselves are striking at their well—being," the political scientist concluded.
On June 2, Orban called for preparations for a prolonged conflict in Ukraine. According to the politician, the military actions indicate that the conflict will be longer and more violent than expected at the beginning of the year.
On May 27, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the West was in every way inciting Ukraine to continue the conflict with Russia. He also noted that he sees attempts by the EU to disrupt the negotiation process between Moscow and Kiev.
