The Danish authorities will not yield to the "unacceptable" pressure from US President Donald Trump on the issue of control over Greenland. This was announced on June 5 by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.

"In recent months, Greenland and Denmark have been subjected to unacceptable pressure from our closest ally. <...> But we are not buckling. We Danes are not like that," the Reuters news agency quoted her as saying.

The politician added that "such fundamental principles of transatlantic relations" as national sovereignty, respect for borders and the right of people to self-determination are now at stake.

On April 27, Greenland's Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen said that the autonomy was ready to cooperate with the United States, but wanted respect and would never be owned by anyone.

Earlier, on March 30, Nielsen said that the United States would not get the island into its own hands. He urged Greenlanders not to be afraid of Trump's statements, but to respond to them with calmness, dignity and unity.
