Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that he opposes the proposal of the European Commission (EC) to completely stop the supply of all energy resources from Russia to the countries of the European Union (EU). He wrote about this on June 5 on the social network Facebook (banned in the territory of the Russian Federation).

"I intend to strongly oppose the European Commission's proposal to completely stop the supply of all gas, oil and nuclear fuel from the Russian Federation to EU countries," he said.

According to him, if implemented, this proposal will have an extremely negative impact on the overall competitiveness of the EU and create virtually intractable situations for some of its members.

"In my opinion, the EC is getting involved in an ideological adventure for which there is no analysis of the enormous risks that this initiative poses to some EU member states, especially Slovakia and Hungary," the Slovak Prime minister added.

Earlier in the day, the Slovak parliament approved a resolution against new sanctions against Russia. The document rejects the sanctions policy and trade restrictions against the Russian Federation and is aimed at protecting Slovakia's economic and energy interests.
