Izvestia — about what to watch in the cinema next weekend.

Ballerina, 18+

Directed by Len Wiseman. Starring: Ana de Armas, Keanu Reeves, Anjelica Huston, Gabriel Byrne, Lance Reddick, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Norman Reedus, Ian McShane

An action movie with a Russian accent, in which ballet is as important as sambo and Tchaikovsky, and this is already interesting. "Ballerina" is a spin-off of the iconic John Wick franchise. The main character, Eva Makarro, is obsessed with the idea of finding those responsible for her father's death. She enters the ballet school "Russka Roma". But working at the machine is not the main thing that is taught here. The school trains real killers. Eva learns the techniques and tactics of the most dangerous killers from the Russka Roma group. Her goal is to get even for the death of loved ones. But Baba Yaga, the nickname of the legendary killer John Wick, is already rushing in her footsteps. He was sent to stop Eve.

Filming of "Ballerina" took place in the Czech Republic and Hungary. The performer of the main role, Ana de Armas, was awarded the Star of the Year award at the CinemaCon action Film Festival for her role in Ballerina.

Chuck's Life, 18+

Directed by Mike Flanagan. Starring: Tom Hiddleston, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, Mark Hamill, Harvey Guillen, Jacob Tremblay

After the hits "Gerald's Game" and "Doctor Sleep," "Chuck's Life" is the third collaboration between horror kings Stephen King and Mike Flanagan. A life-affirming story where the prospect of the apocalypse evokes feelings of bright sadness and gratitude, rather than despair and panic.

Something strange is happening in the life of Charlie Kranz "Chuck": the world around him is gradually collapsing, and mysterious messages of gratitude are appearing everywhere. Who is Chuck and why is he connected to the fate of the whole world? It turns out that behind the external simplicity of his being there are hidden deep experiences, joy, pain and amazing discoveries that make this life truly incredible. The death of "Chuck" coincides with the end of the world. Even anticipating the irreparable, a person tries to look deep into himself, to remember the good and loved ones. King himself called the painting a generator of happiness.

Impostors, 16+

Directed by Maria Reisen. Starring: Linda Lapins, Sergey Shakurov, Egor Beroev, Vladimir Guskov, Anna Mikhalkova, Mark Tikhonov, Mikhail Filippov, Alexander Adabashyan

The creators of the detective drama thriller "Impostors" were inspired by Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin, or rather, his drama "Boris Godunov". For an artistic reinterpretation of the classic tragedy, the authors chose another "time of troubles" — autumn 1993, one of the most dramatic and controversial events in modern Russian history.

The main characters of the film are television journalists Lisa and Lyosha, who are always at the center of historical events. According to the plot of the film, on the night of October 3-4, 1993, at the Ostankino television center in Moscow, the fates of the heroes are intertwined, who still do not realize that they are at a crucial moment for the country. In an attempt to understand the circumstances of the death of the famous Oscar-winning director Boris Berkov, who did not have time to finish his last film Boris Godunov, the characters in love do not notice how they find themselves in the center of historical events that will change their lives forever.

Ugly sister, 18+

Directed by Emily Blichfeldt. Starring: Lea Muren, Thea Sofie Locke Ness, Ane Dahl Thorpe, Flo Fagerli

The film is based on the plot of Cinderella. But this is not a marshmallow dream of a prince, which a hardworking girl got for her efforts and sufferings. This is a fairy tale that turns into a supernaturalistic body horror about her stepsister Elvira. The film tells about the sacrifices a girl is willing to make in order to meet someone's accepted standards. In a world where beauty is not a gift, but a cruel business, the ball becomes an auction of perfection, and the prince becomes a reward for the most flawless shell. What are we willing to expose ourselves to in the name of perfect looks, and how far are we willing to go in tuning? If your foot doesn't fit into a crystal slipper, you have to cut off your fingers. Then the cherished shoes will fit.

Despite the genre, the picture is filled with irony and humor, where the alternation of naturalism and the grotesque only enhance both horror and laughter.

Cops in law, 18+

Directed by Danny A. Abekaser. Starring: David Arquette, Emeline Adams, Nathaniel Buzolic, Danny A. Abekaser, Jeremy Luke, Jeff Paris, Bo Dietl, Rick Salomon, Joseph Russo

A crime drama based on the true story of two former NYPD detectives. Luis Eppolito and Steven Karakappa served the law and secretly worked for the mafia. The film is set in the period from the 1980s to the 2000s. A retired detective publishes a book about his family's ties to the mafia. This event ignites a war between police officers who, abusing their official powers, secretly run errands for the brutal head of a mafia clan, and officers trying to bring criminals to justice.
