A resident of the Novgorod region was detained on suspicion of setting fire to a house where his ex-wife and her two adult sons were staying. This was announced on May 5 by the investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia for the region.
Footage from the scene shows that only charred ruins on a brick foundation remain from the building. It is specified that when the fire was extinguished, law enforcement agencies found the bodies of a 65-year-old woman and her two sons, 37 and 46 years old, in the house.
"According to the investigation, the suspect came to the house of his former roommate, where they had a conflict. Some time later, after going outside, the attacker poured gasoline over and set fire to the house. <...> After which he fled the scene of the crime," the department's Telegram channel says.
It is specified that the man was detained. A criminal case has been opened into the incident under paragraph "a" of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Murder").
In March, the Russian Interior Ministry in the Kurgan region reported that a local resident had set fire to a trailer with people, as a result of which two people were killed and another injured. According to the agency, police officers detained the attacker in a field near the scene of the incident. A criminal case of murder has been opened.
