In Ukraine, the military demanded bribes from deserters for returning to the Armed Forces

Soldiers of one of the military units in the Mykolaiv region of Ukraine demanded bribes from deserters for the opportunity to return to the army without consequences. This was announced on Thursday, June 5, by the State Bureau of Investigation (GBR) of Ukraine.

According to the agency, representatives of the command of the unit asked for $3 thousand each. from military personnel who voluntarily left their positions. For this amount, they were offered a formal return to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), as well as an appointment to a position unrelated to participation in hostilities.

"On June 2, 2025, one of the defendants was detained while receiving the second part of the payment for the service," the department's Telegram channel says.

The GBR clarified that the law on the voluntary return of deserters was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada at the end of April. The document allows you to return to the unit before August 30, 2025 without legal consequences. However, as noted in the GBR, individual military decided to turn this initiative into a source of income.

On May 27, it was reported that the National police of Ukraine had uncovered an interregional criminal group that helped military personnel leave military units and training centers to escape abroad. It was clarified that more than 300 law enforcement officers in six regions participated in the special operation to capture the defendants.
