The Moskvich plant in Moscow is considering the option of launching production of cars with a hybrid power plant in 2027-2028. They will complement the company's product line, which already includes both models with internal combustion engines and purely electric ones. Vadim Ponomarev, Director of Product Engineering at MAZ Moskvich, told Izvestia about this.

"Over the next two to three years, we plan to expand the model range with hybrid models in various vehicle classes, including the SUV and sedan segment," Ponomarev told Izvestia during a strategic session on the Development and Safety of electric Vehicles in Moscow on June 5.

A representative of the automobile plant showed a presentation that provides information about a promising Moskvich model with a plug-in hybrid PHEV power plant. The batteries of such a machine can be charged from an external electrical network.

On the slides, Ponomarev provided technical information about the lithium-iron-phosphate battery (LFP), which can be considered for installation in a hybrid model. The nominal capacity of the battery is 54 Ah, the nominal total energy is 19.7 kWh, the operating voltage range is 350-400 V. The battery weight does not exceed 170 kg, the type of cooling and heating is liquid.

The day before, it was reported that in May of this year, the Moskvich automobile plant sold 1,436 cars. The Moskvich 3 crossover remains the brand's bestseller. Compared to April 2025, the brand's sales volume has hardly changed.

On May 29, it became known that the debut of the Moskvich 8 crossover in the Russian market is expected no earlier than July. The fact that the assembly of Moskvich 8 cars is already underway was reported to Izvestia in mid-May. This model will be the fourth in the line of the revived brand, the announcement of the crossover's entry into the market took place a year ago, in April 2024.
