MTS told about a new stage of 3G network shutdown in Russian cities
In June and July, MTS will stop using 3G networks in nine cities in Adygea, Bashkiria, Tatarstan, Altai and Krasnodar Territories, Vladimir and Novosibirsk regions. In total, it is planned to disable at least half of the remaining 3G base stations across the country by the end of the year, the company's press service said.
MTS is converting the vacated frequencies to the 4G (LTE) standard. The abandonment of outdated technology "increases the data transfer rate and network capacity by about a quarter," the company noted.
This week, the company turned off 3G coverage in the cities of Berdsk, Barabinsk, Kuibyshev (Novosibirsk region), Naberezhnye Chelny (Tatarstan) and Neftekamsk (Bashkiria). From mid-June, the same thing awaits Novoaltaysk, Suzdal and Labinsk, and at the end of July 3G will be turned off in Maikop and Primorsko-Akhtarsk.
When 3G networks were turned off, the company specifically notified subscribers about this.
